SMM, January 16:

Today, spot copper in North China was quoted at a discount of 270-150 yuan/mt against the front-month contract, with an average discount of 210 yuan/mt, down 50 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Transaction prices ranged from 75,560-75,830 yuan/mt, with an average price of 75,695 yuan/mt, up 475 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Copper prices rose again today, while consumption remained sluggish. This led to downstream sectors starting holidays earlier or extending holiday durations this year, resulting in muted stockpiling demand and a decline in spot premiums/discounts.
